These can be controlled with remotes, wall switches, and even smart devices. Our motorized blinds and window covers offer an elegant and high tech solution that will truly enhance your overall enjoyment of your home.

What Are Motorized Window Treatments?

They are window shades and blinds that are powered by a motor and a switch button or a remote control. It is a modification of the manual system to make it easy for one to raise or lower and ease of access. They are purely powered by an electric motor or battery so no effort is required. These are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and styles. These can also be connected to smartphones and tablets, allowing for timed opening and closing of the window covering. Our motorized window treatments, paired with our generous selection of available materials, allows for complete customization and control over the natural lighting in your home.

What Kind Of Homes Would Motorized Window Treatments Fit?

There are various types of windows and homes that are best operated by motorized window treatments. First, they are the best options for operating hard to reach windows. In some buildings, windows are elevated in such a way that you cannot reach the hanging cord to raise or lower the window. In such a case, you just need a remote or a switch button where you press and the motor is powered. This raises or lowers the window to the desired height.

Secondly, it is very useful in homes where the owner is worried about the safety of pets and children. Children and pets are likely to play with the corded shades and blinds and in the process; the window treatment may fall on them resulting to injuries. This eliminates the aspect of cords and no way can the kids and pets access the remote control or the powering switch.

Finally, it is very useful in home theatres and bedrooms. This is because in such a place, you will always want to raise or lower the shades at once or frequently. They are the best option because you just press the power button/remote and you raise the shades at once. It eliminates the monotony of frequently raising and lowering the shades and blinds, and increases the overall comfort and versatility of the space.

What Our Customers are Saying

Many of the custom draperies in our house came from Yardstick back in the 1970s -1990s. They were my mother’s go-to shop for window coverings. Also, it was her favorite fabric store back in the day. I remember spending countless hours browsing through the pattern books for my next year’s school wardrobe.

Fast forward many years, to 2022. The house is mine now. The last time the window treatments were changed was in the ’90s when mom put in white shutters. It was time for a refresh. I stared looking for a window covering company, but the search stopped when I saw that The Yardstick was still around. I called and scheduled an appt with Jack. He came out with a bunch of displays and samples. I didn’t know what I wanted, other than just wanting some sort of shades on some of my windows. Jack asked me what my goals were, such as privacy, diffused light, etc., and based on that he showed me what he thought would be best for each window. I was overwhelmed when it came to picking out colors and fabrics, but Jack’s suggestions were spot on.

I ended up with all Hunter Douglas. I got banded shades in my living room and dining room. I love being able to open them all the way or just open them enough to overlap the bands and let in diffused light, while offering a little privacy. In the kitchen we went with roller blinds because I have a monster house behind me that looks straight down into my kitchen. In my office we went with a pleated shade with the top-down feature because I get afternoon sun and it allows me to block the sun as it travels west without compromising my view too much.

I added the motor to all of the shades that I can’t reach. Best thing ever! I also got the wifi hub for the motors, so I can open and close them from my smart phone. I just used it yesterday when I left the house at night and realized I had left the blinds open. I was able to close them from my car via my cell phone.

Customer service is top-notch and installation was great. I had some tricky situations with where my shades were going, but Mark and Sean figured it out. They had tricks up their sleeves for each obstacle. They installed everything, cleaned up and gave me a lesson on how everything works.

My house is so bright and cheery now. Good riddance to my old shutters!
